Public Records Policy


Public records are available upon request at the Williams County Sheriff's Office between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with the exception of holidays adopted by the Williams County Commissioners.  Requests can also be submitted via email to : wcso@bright.net

There is no limit to the number of public records requests or copies that the Williams County Sheriff's Office will make available to a single person.

All responses to record requests are to be made in compliance with the Ohio Revised Code section 149.43. This policy is intended to summarize these provisions. Any interpretation of this policy or matters not specifically provided herein shall be in accordance Ohio Revised Code section 149.43.

Records are to be organized so as to be available promptly and within a reasonable time after allowing for examination and redaction of exempted information. This may include seeking legal advice.

While it has been established by law that the cost for copies of most public records shall be set at the amount deemed to be the actual cost of making paper copies, the Sheriff's Office must conform to the Ohio statute, which clearly outlines the amount the Sheriff shall charge for copies of recorded documents.

Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code section 317.32, a requestor shall be charged $0.10 per page for a copy of any recorded document copied. Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code section 149.43, a requestor shall be charged $75.00 per hour of video produced up to $750.00
