In addition to requirements for each document detailed on the Instrument Checklist, there are specific page format requirements detailed in the Ohio Revised Code and legal description requirements.

The Williams County Recorder’s Office requires legal descriptions of property on all documents provide identification for property to include, for townships:

  • Quarter
  • Range
  • Section
  • Township, county, and state

Or within incorporated towns or villages:

  • County and state
  • Lot
  • Subdivision
  • The town or village

These details allow for accurate indexing of property ownership. This information cannot be within the survey points of the legal description. The correct indexing of property allows individuals to verify ownership conveyance throughout the county's history.
