Sheriff Towns

Steven M. Towns is a Williams County native. He was raised in West Unity, Ohio, where his parents still reside in their family home. Steve and his family currently reside in rural Bryan.

Steve graduated from Hilltop High School in West Unity and attended Defiance College where he studied criminal justice.

Serving Citizens

Steve has been serving the citizens of Williams County for over 22 years. He was a corrections officer and supervisor at CCNO from 1990 to 1991 and was a Special Deputy with the Williams County Sheriff’s office during this time. In 1991 he became a full-time road deputy with the Sheriff’s Office. He accepted a position with the West Unity Police Department in 2011 so he could run for the Sheriff’s position.

During his time of service as a deputy, Steve was a firearms instructor and served in many other capacities. He has completed numerous training courses over the years and since being elected as Williams County Sheriff he has completed the mandatory Ohio Police Officers Training Commission three week course that is required by those being newly elected Sheriff’s.

Sheriff Role

In his role as Sheriff, Steve’s objectives are to cut unnecessary spending in order to maintain an adequate level of deputies, thus being more responsive to the needs of the citizens, establishing a more unified department while restoring principal values to the Sheriff’s office, utilizing technology to initiate efficiency and re-establishing a school resource officer to promote self-confidence and self-control in our county-wide youth. The DARE program has been re-established in several of the county schools as of the 2013 school year, with hopes of expanding into other areas in the 2014 school year.
